Nothing like bare legs in December, eh? We’ve had unseasonably warm weather here in Texas this week but I’m donning my wool sweaters and fur collars regardless. Whether or not it actually feels like Winter, at least I can dress in a way that makes it look like Winter.
My favorite thing to do when I want to dress up is slip on a boldly patterned, high waisted midi skirt with a simple form-fitting knit top. Full and flowy on the bottom, nipped in at the waist, form-fitting on the top… It’s a tried and true silhouette that I know works well on my figure. It’s such a help to know the shapes that work on your body!
To change it up, I paired this particular outfit with my “new-to-me” Jeffrey Campbell platform oxfords, which I found at Buffalo Exchange. They give me a lift without the discomfort or hazard (yes, wearing high heels with a baby in tow can definitely be classified as a hazard) of a stiletto or pump. The fur collar is one that I picked up at a thrift store many years back and I like to use it instead of my standard woven scarf. The wool kilim “rug” bag is also a Buffalo Exchange score and it has become by go-to handbag. It’s just the right size, slings over my shoulder or across my body and adds a bohemian vibe to whatever I wear, which I especially love. The hat, of course, is completely unnecessary but I love wearing it anyways.
To finish my look, I layered just a few favorite gold jewelry pieces such as my “woven feather” ring and my sparkly diamond-like stud earrings. In general, I like simple jewelry and I tend to wear the same things on a daily basis, even when dressing up. My red lip color feels like a fashion accessory too and, when I’m feeling a bit fancy, I’ll paint some on. It’s the holidays after all! We can all use a bit of fanciness, I think.
So, how will you express your style for the holidays?
