An Unusual Mother’s Day + Uncommon Goods Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed.

Strange as it seems, one of the more difficult things I’m learning to adjust to with this whole motherhood thing is just that – the name “mother”. Not the late night feedings or stinky diapers but simply the name and identity that comes with the word “mother”. I still can’t wrap my head around it! Me? A mother to a living human being? Nah! It can’t possibly be. Yet I look around my significantly altered world and all signs point to one thing – I am a mother whether or not the sound of it is strange.

I’m betting on the fact that my new identity will make more sense and feel more familiar as time goes on. Like the perfect denim jacket that only fits better as its worn through the years.

For the present, I’m doing my best to prepare for my first Mother’s Day in which I can actual celebrate my own accomplishments. To help me, Uncommon Goods sent over this adorable baby journal by Yasmeen Ismail which I’ll be filling up with mementos and memories of the past several weeks.

I think that motherhood is probably one of the most life altering events you can go through. Marriage is pretty big, but being a mother is unique. In the beginning, you are totally connected to the child and they depend on you for everything….they are totally connected to and dependent upon you for their every need. Then the child grows up, begins to develop his/her own life….and the next thing you know you find yourself always reaching out to the child yearning to stay connected to them and their life. I know….cause I am your mom.

I’m missing my own sweet Mama, about to spend my third Mother’s Day without her, but I’m spending my first Mother’s Day with my new grandson, Jude, and found a great gift for his Mom (my daughter)! Happy Mother’sDay, Hilary!!!
