“Ugly” for the Aesthete

Today’s post goes out to all of my fellow aesthetes out there! I came across Kate Arends’ presentation on Creative Mornings over the weekend and knew I had to share it with you. Maybe I’m getting carried away with this whole “authenticity” thing, but it just feels right.

For those that haven’t heard of Creative Mornings, it’s a brilliant resource for short talks given by creative folks around the country. Kate Arends of Wit & Delight delivered a brilliant presentation on “The Business of Beauty” and how “ugly” plays a role in it as much as anything else. She was a bit nervous at first, but once she got her footing, I found her message completely refreshing and liberating. If you have some laundry to do on the sofa or time for a lunch break at your desk, I highly recommend taking a moment to watch this 17 minute video.

P.S. My bathroom from above still looks exactly the same as it did when I took this photo before Christmas. Errr… ok, maybe I’ve painted on a few more color blocks since then. Choosing paint colors for yourself is impossible!
