My head was brimming with decorating ideas and I soaked up every bit of inspiration from her space that I could! Of course, all things take time… more than I could ever imagine, in our case. But slowly, bit by bit we’ve been making progress. Today, I’m finally ready to share a peak at that progress.

Our bedroom is by far the most complete room in the house. I didn’t plan to do it that way but it’s worked out perfectly. It’s just the cozy, restful escape that we’ve both needed at the end of our long days. The walls are painted, the furniture is in place, the draperies are hung, and there are only a couple unpacked boxes hiding in the corner. All that’s needed now is artwork and that seems like such a tiny thing in comparison to everything else.

To give you a point of reference, this is where we started.

And this is where we are now! Can you believe it? Thanks to the incredibly hard work of my parents, we painted the dark blue walls before ever moving in. (Actually, just minutes before moving in but who’s counting?) I knew from the very beginning that I wanted a dark room. We’ve had this gorgeous antique brass bed, a family piece from my sister-in-law, for a few years and it needed something dramatic to stand up against.

Of all my decorating schemes, this was a no-brainer. Deep blue glorious walls. I went with Sherwin Williams’ Rainstorm in the Matte finish.

DSC_6876DSC_6967 DSC_7077It’s amazing what the right set of draperies will do to make a room feel finished. I found these at World Market and absolutely fell in love with their warm color palette and William Morris-esque pattern. The mustard yellow ties in perfectly with the brass bed and makes a striking complement to the deep blues walls.

DSC_7083 DSC_6894 (2)I’ve never been one for matching too carefully (case-in-point), hence the rest of my design choices for the space. I think every room needs a touch of black and white (check), a modern geometric element (check), and something traveled (check). It’s got everything I love!

Now, what to do about the artwork… Any suggestions?

Until the next thrilling reveal, friends…  This house will get done one way or another.

gorgeous walls and I think those draperies and that bed frame are artwork! but, I think it would be fun to see an abstract landscape or something really modern looking to contrast with the vintage feel. really love those black and white shams…I just started adding black to all my rooms and they all feel so much better now!

I totally agree, Emily! I was actually thinking about some monochromatic abstracts in a more “sketchy” style. Something simple and modern to balance things.

It looks beautiful, Hilary! You are so right – the wall color really let’s that gorgeous bed shine. Navy, brass and crisp white bedding – all of my favorite things! Loving those modern lamps on top of the vintage nightstands, too. So good!

Wow, these walls. Lovely and stunning color, especially with that brass bed. For the artwork, I would personally pull in additional modern elements, like framed paintings with extra large white matte. 🙂

Thank you, Sarah! We’re definitely gals that can appreciate a dark, rich wall color.
