PERSON: Skyler Fike
PLACE: Oak Cliff, Dallas
WORK: Photographer, Student of Architecture, “Weld”-er
STORY: I am super excited about today’s Style Story. We have a real, live single guy on the blog! Yep. Skyler Fike is a fantastic guy and one that I was thrilled to meet for an afternoon photo shoot at his home in Dallas, TX. He and a fellow photographer and friend rent the space together and have made a group effort to bring their home character and comfort. I met Skyler through Rachael Currie… you remember Rachael and her serene bungalow haven, right? Both Skyler and Rachael are creative freelancers at Weld. Skyler is in a particularly unique position because while he is maintaining a regular flow of photography work, he’s also working towards his architecture license. I love people with multiple career paths! They make me feel less crazy.
Skyler’s home and style are anything but crazy, though. I love how his space represents snippets of his photographic interests alongside his architectural approach to multi-use items and spacial adaptability. (Case-in-point, keep your eyes open for his movable bed and headboard sketch wall.
Please welcome Skyler to the blog!
As you’ll learn from Skyler’s podcast interview later this week, he was destined to be a creative of some sort. Considering his long family history of artistic and design related pursuits, Skyler’s path makes perfect sense. Come back on Wednesday to hear the whole story.
In the meantime, how about the winner of the Brika giveaway? Congratulations to Colleen!! You are the winner. I’ll be contacting you shortly. YES!!! Skyler!!! I love it!
That guy is effing hot. He’s not going to be single for long. I’m on it.
Love this post. Skyler is all that is man!
The kraft paper roll and bed on wheels is genius. He has great style!
That was one of my favorite things in Skyler’s home. Such a cool idea!
He has a card catalog! Be still my librarian heart!
I know!! I isn’t it the coolest? I wonder how hard it is to find one of those at a decent price. You totally need one, Mary Evelyn! (“Need” in the loose sense of the word.)
Hilary-
I’m new to your podcast and absolutely loving it. This episode was only my second time listening, but I had to jump over a say to you (and Skyler)how much I loved this episode. I’m an architecture grad as well and basically in the same postgrad ‘archy-life season’ as Skyler so I found his interview refreshing and rejuvenating for a fellow intern. I love his positive attitude about pursuing licensure and the comparison of architecture to a marriage- which is SPOT ON.
Plus his home is beautifully edited.
Cheers!
Megan, thank you for writing!!! I’m so glad you found my podcast and even more thrilled that it has really connected with you and your particular place in life. It’s always helpful to hear from other people that are making a similar journey as we are. I hope you’ll come back and continue listening! If you get the chance, I’d be incredibly grateful for a review on iTunes. They are a big help in making the show more visible to new listeners like yourself.
