A Day in Fort Worth with Rue Magazine

Fort Worth has the mistaken reputation of being the “red-headed stepchild” of it’s bigger, fancier neighbor Dallas. Truth of the matter is, Fort Worth is a fantastic city all on its own! We lovingly refer to ourselves as “Cowtown” or “Panther City”. Rumor has it that in the early days of the city, it was so quiet that a panther was once found sleeping in the heart of downtown. While we’re still a relatively chill place to live, things have changed just a bit since then. We’re a tad bit country, a hair defiant, happily hospitable, and deeply cultured.

A couple weeks ago, I had the great pleasure of extending my enthusiasm for Fort Worth by being a tourist in my own town with my good friend Amanda for Rue Magazine. We shopped some of Fort Worth’s best retailers and food places for a story in Rue’s February issue.

I imagine the editing process for a magazine must be heart-wrenching. So many beautiful photos and interesting stories necessarily have to go unpublished! This story about Fort Worth must have been no exception. So, to help ease that pain, I’m sharing a few of the outtakes from my day with Amanda. If you’re a fellow Fort Worthian, then you likely know how cool these places are in person. And if you’re not, next time you’re in town give them a try!

And there you have it. My favorite Fort Worth shopping destinations in a nutshell. (except there are so many more!… just sayin’) Next time you’re in town, give me a ring and we’ll visit a few.

Don’t forget to read the whole story over at RUE.

Happy shopping, friends!

P.S. All the photos above were taken by the endlessly talented Amanda Marie Lackey. She always makes me look so good. 😉

    Hey there!
I just discovered your blog for the first time as I’m heading down to visit DFW for the first time (heading down for medical purposes but want to fit in some exploring!!) and was searching for some intriguing shopping destinations! If you have the time I would positively love to hear your recommendations for the best places to check out in Fort Worth! It sounds admittedly a bit cheesy but is there anywhere you would recommend for finding a souvenir piece of clothing/jewellery that distilled the local flavour? I was thinking some cowgirl boots as the occasion to own a pair has never struck me but seemed very Texan?
