It’s a new day just like the previous one was 24 hours prior. On the surface, life continues as always. Instead, it seems the bigger change is in our mindset.
Earlier this Fall while listening to one of my favorite podcasts, the phrase “examples of possibility” came up. That short group of words struck me as wonderfully relevant for the new year and I noted it mentally. Now that we’re here, I’m thinking about it again.
What if in 2014 we took our lists of resolutions, wishes, plans, and desires and considered them examples of possibility rather than bullet point obligations or rigid aspirations? Wouldn’t we be better off? We could transform the pressures of specific goals into a spirit of opportunity and flexibility, where the things we wish for are possibilities worth working towards but not requirements for stressing over. It’s far too easy to overlook the real possibilities of what could be for our inflexible ideas of what should be.
Likewise, the same mindset could be applied to the stories of this blog. When I look at the pretty spaces and inspiring stories of my guests, I like to consider all the incredible possibilities that each one presents for me. Career options, fashion choices, home DIYs, and lifestyle examples. But I know that the possibilities are as much about how they will be different for me as they are about how they appear in their original form. Whatever style another person may have or whatever life they may live, my version of it will be completely individual. Unrepeatable. Inexplicably rich with the layers of my own story. Now, that’s a change worth celebrating!
Happy new year, friends! I’m so looking forward to the possibilities in front of us.
