Bri and Trey’s Style Story from earlier this week was beyond stellar! So much so that I decided to take a few cues from their decorating style and incorporate them into my own home.
Walking around their house, I couldn’t help but notice all the colorful, patterned multi-cultural references. Everything from Southwestern woven textiles and baskets to Balinese figurines and decorative accessories. I love that look and wanted to add a touch of something similar as well.
The most obvious candidate was our master bed, which had been sorely overlooked in all my decorating schemes. I contacted Stephanie at Baba Souk, my new favorite online home and fashion shop, and arranged to have this snazzy guy (below) delivered to my doorstep. He had all the right colors in all the right places. Deep red to coordinate with our drapes, golden yellow to tie in the brass bed and existing pillows, blue and green to mix things up. I’m actually pretty amazed at how much of a difference it made from the state of things before! What do you think of it?
Now, you want to do something similar in your home? Well, today is your lucky day baby because I’ve put together a handy-dandy, super quick 1, 2, 3 (or A, B, C) for decorating your bed with fun, colorful pillows that don’t look too wacky or overdone. For those of us with more on our to-do lists than encroaching gray hairs on our heads, this easy to follow formula is for you.
A) Start with a pair of simple Euro pillows. These will act as the backdrop to your more decorative front pillows.
B) Layer in a couple slightly smaller pillows in a brighter solid color. Choose something that will coordinate with the rest the of the decor in you room.
C) The final pillow should be smallest and will be all about impact. Go for something bold and unexpected! It helps if you can find something that ties in at least a few colors from around your room. But don’t worry about adhering to that guideline strictly. This one is mostly for FUN!
And that’s it, folks. You can officially strike off “decorate the bed with pillows” from your list of things to do. (I know that was top priority this time of year). Check out Baba Souk to shop their full collection of decorative pillows, carpets, and throws. They have some stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces that I think you’ll love, not to mention great gift options at fantastic prices for the holidays.
Happy shopping, friends!
