Try as we might, the picture is never clear until we take the opportunity to look back from our present perspective and examine the connecting dots.

During my visit with Jane Waggoner a few months back, we had just such an opportunity. It’s was a blast! Jane walked me through her beginnings in art history, how she transitioned from one thing to another, and eventually ended up in the design industry working with residential clients and designing products ranging from wall coverings to metal furniture and fine carpets. By the end of it all, we concluded that Jane has had a life long fascination with 2D surfaces in the form of fine art, textiles, and floor coverings to name a few. It came as no surprise when she then explained that much of her family had a history with fine art, 2D graphics and design as well. Ah, yes! Nothing in this world seems to be random.

As we tour through Jane’s home today, I hope you’ll enjoy the inspiring menagerie of cultural and artistic references that have influenced her style as much as I did the day I visited. She has a keen eye for pattern and a beautiful sense of composition, which I plan on taking many notes from for my own home.

In tomorrow’s conversation with Jane, you can look forward to some seriously inspiring talk. We covered everything from the importance of entrepreneurship for artists, maintaining design sensitivity while also growing a thick skin, and connecting the dots of one’s life to find your true passion. Good stuff, no? I really can’t wait to share.

Catch you tomorrow, friends!

Molly, isn’t it awesome! If I’m not mistaken, that chair in the first photo is actually some sort of embroidered piece that Jane did herself! Crazy impressive.
