I’ll tell you more about her visit when the time is right, but for today, let’s stick to the topic at hand. Specifically windows, sunlight, cool weather, flickering shadows, and new drapes.

Yep! After years of living with naked windows, I finally hung drapes in our living room and bedroom. In a scurry to spruce things up for our visitor, I made a mad dash to Ikea and ran a last minute house cleaning marathon with David. Included in the madness was a late night curtain hanging session. Nothing like a visitor to whip you and your messy house into shape, huh?

Well, since the marathon cleaning/decorating episode, I’ve had some much needed down time to enjoy the fruits of our efforts. It’s been incredible! Now, my favorite household pastime is simply sitting on the sofa with a tasty drink in hand, watching as the light flickers through the pretty pattern of our new curtains. (ok, minus the new curtains, that may have been my favorite pastime before as well. but now the view is SO much prettier!)

Coincidentally, the weather turned sublime over the weekend. I’m now introducing sweaters into my daily wear not because of frigid indoor air-conditioning but because of a cool outside breeze. So, while the weather is nice and the house is clean, Ives and I will be spending our work days looking longingly out through beautifully clad windows of flickering light and counting the hours until we can step outside to enjoy all the gorgeousness that is this Fall. It’s a lovely harmony between indoors and out. And that’s what a good set of drapes should be, right?

What’s the view like from your windows these days? Are you enjoying time inside or out?

For your pleasure, a few of my current faves in the drapery department:

Enjoying the scenery, this story…

I should have brought him out for your photos, Sarah. Darn! Of course, he might have smothered you with his hysteria. Maybe next time.
